Exposure effects

Prolonged or repeated skin contact may cause defatting and dermatitis. Animal studies have reported that fetal effects/abnormalities may occur when maternal toxicity is seen. Chronic exposure may cause kidney damage.

Health Hazards

Ingestion: May cause gastrointestinal irritation with nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. May cause auditory damage with possible loss of hearing. May cause neuromuscular paralysis, intestinal malabsorption, and superinfections.  
Inhalation: May cause effects similar to those described for ingestion. 
Skin: May cause skin irritation. May cause skin sensitization, and allergic reaction, which becomes evident upon re-exposure to this material. May be absorbed through the skin. 

Eyes: Exposure to solid may cause pain and redness. 

 

Emergency and First Aid Procedures

 

Ingestion: If victim is conscious and alert, give 2-4 cupfuls of milk or water. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Get medical aid immediately.  
Inhalation: Remove from exposure to fresh air immediately. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. Get medical aid.  
Skin: Immediately flush skin with plenty of soap and water for at least 15 minutes while removing contaminated clothing and shoes. Get medical aid.
Eyes: Immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes, occasionally lifting the upper and lower eyelids. Get medical aid.

 

Wash contaminated clothing before reuse.

Small spills/leaks

Avoid raising dust. Evacuate area. Vacuum or sweep up material and place into a suitable disposal container. Clean up spills immediately, using the appropriate protective equipment. Ventilate area and wash spill site after material pickup is complete.

Store tightly closed in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from incompatible substances.

Minimize dust generation and accumulation. Avoid contact with eyes, skin, and clothing. Keep container tightly closed. Avoid ingestion and inhalation. Use with adequate ventilation. Wash thoroughly after handling. Remove contaminated clothing and wash before reuse.

 Wash hands before eating. Do not permit eating, drinking or smoking near material.
